Have you ever tried stuffed French toast? I have been making cream cheese stuffed French toast for quite sometime now. It is amazing with many variations, but when I came up with this stuffed French toast recipe, I wanted to make it taste like my easy gluten free cinnamon rolls recipe. This Cinnamon Roll Stuffed French Toast recipe tastes like a ooey gooey cream cheese cinnamon roll, but takes a fraction of the time. In this post I will tell you how to make stuffed French toast.

Whether it’s a holiday, a brunch, or just a fabulous morning that deserves something special- A good stuffed French toast recipe will make a simple recipe turn decadent and impressive.

Winter and the holidays require several different types of recipes. You will of course need the cookie recipes, side dishes, a fabulous main course, and then recipes for brunches and special breakfasts.

Typically we love to gravitate toward cinnamon rolls to create that special breakfast and that’s because cinnamon rolls are truly special. (I also have a killer recipe you can find HERE)

However, making cinnamon rolls from scratch is not always practical. When we lived in Washington and it was just the 4 of us I could do it easily, but now that I have family coming in the morning and again in the afternoon, I just don’t have the time to make them on Christmas morning.

Cream cheese stuffed french toast is AMAZING. You can add preserves or anything you would like. But one morning I dreamt up stuffing it with cinnamon sugar and the perfect amount of it along with the cream cheese.

Even if you make my easy cinnamon roll recipe it takes some patience and elbow grease, but this recipe is fast, easy, and incredibly delicious.

My kids aren’t huge French toast fans, they tend to learn towards pancakes. Me on the other hand, loves French toast.

At first my daughter wasn’t sure if she wanted to try it, but she took a bite and then asked for her own plate. When I made the second round she hounded me while I shot the photos.

We have declared this our Christmas morning breakfast and I was thrilled because of how simple it is to make.

When making something like French toast the bread is incredibly important. On social media I get asked all of the time what our favorite gluten free bread is and of course I always respond without hesitation that it is Canyon Bakehouse.

I have been buying Canyon Bakehouse bread for YEARS. But, you could totally use my Homemade Sandwich Bread Recipe too.

How to make stuffed french toast

process shots for cinnamon roll stuffed french toast

  1. Start by adding the eggs, coconut milk, cinnamon and nutmeg to a shallow bowl of pie dish. I love a pie dish for this, it makes it easy! Then whisk it all together until it is blended well.
  2. In a separate bowl add the sugar and cinnamon, set aside.
  3. Grab your slices of gluten free bread and spread the cream cheese on every slice, it’s about 1 tbsp. of cream cheese per slice of bread.
  4. After you have a generous amount of cream cheese on each slice you will sprinkle the cinnamon sugar generously on top of the cream cheese. It’s about 1 tsp. per slice of bread.
  5. Gently press 2 slices together with the cream cheese in the middle to basically create a sandwich. Place about 2-3 of the “sandwiches” in the pie dish with the egg mixture. Let it soak it up for 2-3 minutes and flip. After flipping add the coconut oil to the pan and heat the pan on medium heat.
  6. Add the French toast, about 2-3 of the “sandwiches”, you will likely need to do this in 2 batches unless you have a pan big enough to fit all of them. Cook 2 minutes on each side and then remove from heat. If your stove runs hot, or the French toast seems to be cooking too fast, reduce the heat slightly.
  7. Serve warm and dust with powdered sugar. Enjoy!!

What flavor bread should I use?

You cannot go wrong in this recipe. Truly any flavor will be fabulous! I have made it with the Hawaiian, Mountain White, and Ancient Grain. All were amazing,

Do I have to use coconut oil?

No! If you prefer a different oil, any will do really. I like avocado in place of coconut.

What if I’m not dairy free?

If you are not dairy free use regular milk and regular cream cheese in the recipe with the same measurements.

That is all there is to it and that is why I can say with confidence that you will love this recipe and make it time and time again! Enjoy!
