Gluten Free Alternatives to Beer
If you are new to the gluten-free space, you might be looking for Gluten Free Alternatives to Beer. Luckily, these days there are many options available. Here are my favorite gluten free beer alternatives.
Gluten Free Alternatives to Beer
Ciders
Ciders have been around for a long time and when I first became gluten free they were my go-to gluten free alternative for beer. If you like fruity and sweet then ciders are for you. I’m not a fan of sweet drinks, so I would look for the dry style and those were my favorite. When we live in Washington, there was a local cider place called Cockrell Cider and they were amazing! Some other good brands are Ace, Angry Orchard and 2 Towns Cider House. These brands are usually available at major grocery stores. I’ve found that most states I visit have local cideries that can be found in smaller stores, or health stores such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Sprouts.
Hard Seltzers
Everyone loves a hard seltzer. They are naturally gluten free, low calorie, low carb and low sugar. More recently beer brands have jumped on the wagon and started offering seltzers. While the majority of them are gluten-free, be sure to check ingredients if it’s not labeled. A lot of the Seltzer brands are now offering didn’t cocktail flavors in a can such as margarita and vodka. My best advice is to stick to the original flavors. One big indication that it is not safe, is if it is a Malt beverage. Malt is gluten, so be sure to avoid those. Some of my favorite seltzers are Truly, White Claw and Corona Hard Seltzers.
Wine
Wine has been my drink of choice since my early 20’s. There has been rumors of wine being made in barrels that are coated with wheat paste, however I believe this has been debunked. Regardless, it has been told that even if some type of gluten or wheat was used during production it is broken down during the fermentation process. If you want to be extra safe then double check with the brand ahead of time. Some of my go-to brands for wine are Chandon, Mum, Josh and Joel Gott. I also love the Kirkland brand champagne.
CBD/THC Infused Drinks
These are new and with the NA drink trend they are growing to be very popular. Most of these drinks can be found in health stores. They are typically an infused sparkling water with a little but of flavor. I have tried the Shimmerwood beverages and I enjoy them for a light and refreshing drink for a light calming feeling.
Kombucha
Hard Kombucha is an excellent alternative to a beer. They are low sugar and still contain gut healing probiotics. I love having a hard kombucha on a Friday evening.
My Favorite Gluten Free Alternatives to Beer are wine, but I also enjoy a hard seltzer, kombucha and a gluten free beer from time to time.
