Living Freely Gluten Free is branching out into the lifestyle genre, so I am excited to start sharing with you a lot more than just recipes. Beauty, makeup, and household products are important too and I want to share all of the goodness with you! I am so excited, let’s get started!
First off, I am a huge lover of sunless tanners. I have been using them since I was a teenager and believe me back then it was a whole lot of hot mess. I have learned the hard way how to apply it correctly, with the right amount, and how to match my skin tones. I’ve had orange ankles, knees and hands more times then I can count. But, for some reason I kept putting it on. I’m very pale. Seriously, I am the lightest shade of all foundation and without a little fake bake I am translucent. I tried tanning beds when I was in high school because I was in denial. I came to terms with my pale skin at the ripe age of 18, but living in sunny California I was not ok being pale.
The amount of sunless tanner on the market now is abundant and the formulas are so much better than 15-20 years ago! I started using gradual tanners when Jergens came out with their version (back in my glutenous life). I always hated the smell of it, but I liked how it wasn’t too dark and I had control of the tan.
Why do I love Hempz Yuzu & Starfruit Touch of Summer ?
When Hempz came out with their Touch of Summer Moisturizer I jumped right on that! Hempz is one of my favorite brands and I have been using their products since they only had one lotion back almost 20 years ago (jeez I feel old now). I love the regular Touch of Summer Moisturizer and still use it. However, my biggest downfall and complaint about sunless tanner was how I had to wait a few hours for it to set before I could put on sunscreen. Being as pale as I am, during the spring and summer months I have to apply sunscreen before leaving the house every day. Even just to drive the kids to school, I had to be protected. I was dreaming of a sunless tanner that contained sunscreen, so my life could be easier.
O-M-G my dreams came true!
When Hempz Yuzu & Starfruit Touch of Summer came out I jumped on that! This is my second season using it and I just reordered more to make sure I won’t run out. I love it for several reasons, so let me lay them out for you…
- It smells amazing- This is very important because some make you stink. I love the smell of this!
- I am protected for my regular daily activities with the SPF 30 and I am also building my base glow.
- It is super moisturizing. This is my lotion, tanner, and sunscreen rolled all into one!!
- Hempz is a brand that I love and trust.
- It doesn’t turn me orange and gives me the perfect healthy glow!
Now, if I need a darker tan for any reason, then I use a regular sunless tanner (I will share more of that in future posts) to give myself a tan and then I use this daily to maintain it and keep a glow. During the summer months when I am showing off more skin, my routine consists of self tanner every 10 days and then the Hempz Yuzu & Starfruit Touch of Summer every morning when I get ready.
Pro-tip: If you have not freshly exfoliated, the sunless tanner sticks to dry patches and can cause an uneven tan. During warmer months I exfoliate in the shower every other day. I also like to use one pump of regular lotion and mix it with the sunless tanner when I am applying to my elbows, wrists, ankles, knees, and the top of my feet. This slightly dilutes the color for these spots and also provides extra moisture since these are the areas we tend to get dryer.
Do you fake bake? What are your must haves?
