Grain Free All Purpose Flour

This Grain Free All Purpose Flour is going to be one of my go-to’s in a lot of the recipes I will be posting in the future. I have recently found the need to cut out the majority of rice from my diet. Grain free is going to be the easiest way to do this, although I will be using oat flour as well. Eventually I hope to branch out and experiment more with flours such as teff and sorghum.

A little background on the rice situation: Since going gluten free I began to lose my hair, it will come and go and this has been happening over the past 6 years. I’ve seen countless doctors about it and none of them could give me a reason for it. I also haven’t felt my best lately and I was contributing it to sugar.  Sugar has played a huge part of this as well. That is why I will be experimenting with more paleo or just grain free recipes while I get my health on track.

Something I think that we forget about or don’t realize when we are gluten free (I am 100% guilty of this) is how much rice is in our diet. Rice contains high levels of arsenic and we are eating multiple servings of it a day. It is in 95% of the gluten free food and snacks found at the grocery store. I started thinking about all of this while trying to figure out why my hair loss became so much worse last year…

I realized that is was time to eat a different way for the health of myself and for my kids. The doctor wouldn’t test my arsenic levels because she said their tests only recognized deadly levels. For now my goal for myself is to stay rice free unless eating out. For my kids my goal is for them to eat 90% rice free at home, so if they are at school, or someone’s home I can feel ok about them eating things with rice.

Grain Free All Purpose Flour

So far I have been experimenting with this all purpose flour and have had great success with some recipes. I have made cookies, pancakes, chocolate cake, French bread, pizza crust, biscuits, scones and strawberry shortcake. Stay tuned for these recipes on the blog in the future.

Most bloggers don’t use a grain free all purpose flour. Typically its just a mixture of almond flour, coconut flour, and starches. I am an all purpose flour kind of girl. I need to mix it and keep it on my counter, which makes my life simple.

Maybe in the future this Grain Free All Purpose Flour might work itself into its own cookbook. What do you think?

I hope that you might get creative and use this in some recipes other than mine. Please share if you do! I have found that this works well in gluten free recipes if you add an extra egg and reduce the amount of liquid used. Grain Free All Purpose Flour

A simple blend of almond flour, coconut flour, potato starch and tapioca starch. This blend is my go-to for my grain free recipes.

    You don’t add xantham gum to this mixture?

      No. If you want to use it in a recipe that calls for it, then add it at that time.

    can arrowroot easily replace the tapioca?

      Yes, you can use arrowroot in place of the tapioca.

    I love all your recipes!! Wondering if this Grain Free All Purpose Flour is the same recipe that you mentioned in your recipe for Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing? It says to use your personal GF All Purpose Flour Blend? Is this a different version?

      Hi Barb! I use my gluten free all purpose flour blend in the cinnamon roll recipe. I have been having success using the grain free in place of the gluten free flour in most of my recipes. If you give the grain free flour a try in the cinnamon roll recipe, please let me know how it works out for you.
