My Whole30 Journey Days 8-14

The first week has its ups and downs. The first few days not having sugar was hard. The cravings would hit every afternoon as my normal routine includes afternoon sweets of some sort. It took about 5 days before the afternoon craving left. The night time cravings were not easy either. I would enjoy a glass (or two) of wine and sometimes some chocolate (these are the horrible habits I am ready to break and that is why I am doing this) so I would fry myself a banana most nights to help get through that moment, and it helped.

I discovered Artisana Organic Raw Almond Butter, 16 oz and Larabar Gluten Free Fruit & Nut Food Bar, Coconut Cream Pie, 16 - 1.7 Ounce Bars . Where have these been all of my life? They are my little pieces of Heaven but they feel so sinful. They hit the spot and curve any sweet cravings I might have. I found that Amazon has the best prices on these products. I do not live close to a Wholefoods so my Amazon Prime has been a savior.

What I learned in week 1:
1) You need a high quality spiralizer. I bought the wrong kind but this one is amazing and on my wish list.

2) You will be cooking a lot and shopping a lot. You will run through meat and veggies at a rapid pace. It's kind of crazy. My body is thankful though for all of the nutrients it is receiving instead of sugar-ful carbs.

3) There will always be dishes in the sink. Yes, you finally cleaned up all of the breakfast dishes and then its lunch time and dinner time and the sink is overflowing constantly. You learn to stop fighting the fight. I learned this lesson on day 4.

4) On day 3 I stopped putting the cutting board in the sink when I was done on it. I just left it on the counter, with my knife and vegetable peeler. At the end of the day when dinner was done I would wash it and put it away.

Day 8:

Day 9:
I did the same as usual. 2 eggs over easy, sweet potatoes and a sausage. For my snacks today I had a Larabar and an apple with almond butter. So yummy!!!

Chicken burger from trader joes thrown into a salad with whatever I found quickly in the fridge.

Zoodles with a meat marinara sauce. Safeway carries an organic sauce that is compliant. Great for a night when I have to work.

Day 9: I've made it 9 days! What I've learned: I only have the normal "hunger" feeling when I first wake in the morning. I'm realizing now that when I need to eat I start to feel tired and sluggish my head feels light and then I realize it's time to eat something, this only happens at lunch time because the day is so crazy busy time slips away and my body has to remind me to eat. I've also realized that most people I tell that I'm on my Whole30 journey respond with, "wow, I couldn't do that." I will do an entire article on that exact comment in the near future because I HATE the words, "I can't". I decided that term will not be aloud to ever come out of my kids mouths. I'm noticing small changes in my body as well. My belly is a little flatter :) and my wedding ring is looser.

Day 10:
Today was just one of those days. It was crazy and hectic and food didn't have the option to be a priority. I had my normal breakfast and wasn't home for lunch so I snacked on a Larabar and when I got home it was too late for a meal so I had an apple with almond butter. I didn't have time before having to leave for work to cook a big dinner so we had breakfast again, lol. I added some bell peppers to make it a little more flavorful. I'm hoping tomorrow will be a bit better.

Day 11:
So today I woke up with no hunger pains. I took my time making breakfast and feeding the kids. After I ate and had my cup of coffee with almond milk I had a surge of energy. This is often my most productive time of the day if there is nowhere that I have to be. I was able to catch up on some chores around the house, finally. I am losing my desire to cook though and that is not good when you are doing a Whole30. Today I missed just being able to make a sandwich and eat quickly.

Today I feel like it is all SUCH A TASK!!! I really really need to do some serious grocery shopping because I am low or out of almost all of my safe food. However, with two little kids and work every evening getting my grocery errands ran has not happened. On top of all that we have a community garage sale I am prepping for this weekend. I want to get rid of all of this baby stuff. I do believe the Hubby and I will get a date night tomorrow (yesterday was our 13 year "together" anniversary) and since eating out is not an option I would like to spend it running errands and looking at stuff at Home Depot. (ya, thats exciting stuff when your old)

For breakfast I had the exact same thing and there is a very good chance I may eat that the entire 30 days. I am an eggs and potatoes kind of girl. However, when I was making my sons pancake this morning it looked good and I HATE pancakes. I remember saying to myself, "I want one of these pancakes." HA!

For lunch I am eating another salad type concoction. Like I said, I need groceries. I threw together lettuce, bell peppers, salsa, guacamole and a chicken burger with dressing.
Pork chops with carrots, onion, broccoli and bell pepper.

Day 12:
I started off day 11 with my usual. Today is a garage sale all day so I'm very pressed for time.

For lunch I had to just eat fast and I had a chicken patty with lettuce, salsa and bell peppers.

It was date night and we chose to go to Costco. We picked up Chipotle for the entire family on the way home. Crazy, long and exhausting day.

Day 13:
I had my eggs, sweet potatoes and sausage along with some strawberries. I was back out to do the garage sale again. I needed to go grocery shopping so I was low on food and time and I skipped lunch. So bad I know! I had an apple with almond butter.

For dinner we had Hambigler's but I wrapped mine in lettuce. I made sweet potato fries and loaded my burger with guac, tomato and onion.

Day 14:
My little baby girl decided sleep wasn't happening last night so I woke exhausted. I started my day with my favorite breakfast and added some fresh organic strawberries. I did my measurements and weight this morning and I have lost a total of 3 pounds and 2 inches on my waist. I am yet to feel that "Tiger blood" everyone is talking about but then again I don't get to sleep like most people do because the kids have me up a lot. I have noticed I am so tired at night and I want to go to sleep at 8:30. I am even falling asleep on the couch and I typically stay up until 11 every night.
